We are grateful for the generosity of the donors and institutions that choose to invest in our capacity to achieve justice for all. We value donors giving at every level. We believe in the value of grassroots fundraising. We also accept financial support from the very wealthy and use it to fight for racial, economic, and other forms of justice. We also strive to leverage our relationships with the philanthropic community and our members and supporters to address the historical and current imbalance of funding between large institutions like the ACLU and smaller organizations, understanding that our community-based partners are essential to achieving results on the frontlines.
We recognize the importance and complexity of building a donor community that reflects the diverse communities we work with and serve. We want all donors to feel like valued members of the ACLU community and understand the impact of their partnership with the organization. We are committed to continuing to do the work to build an organization where all donors feel welcome and see themselves reflected in and respected by our communications, outreach, and practices.
We are committed to sharing with donors and members the impact of our collective contributions. We also believe that an important part of our stewardship is to provide additional opportunities—beyond financial gifts—to partner with us by learning about the roots of systemic injustice, how it manifests today, and ways donors can put their learning, power, and resources into action.
