In May 2026, the federal Board of Prisons published an environmental review of FCI Dublin, the notorious former women’s prison in Alameda County. This is the first step in a process that could result in the property being turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is searching for detention space near its San Francisco field office.
FCI Dublin is tainted by a legacy of horrific sexual abuse. It’s also unsafe and uninhabitable. The property should be abolished, not repurposed to imprison valued members of our community.
Although currently there are no immigration detention facilities in Northern California, the federal government plans to build one in Gilroy. We must prevent ICE from expanding the Trump administration’s inhumane system of mass detention in our state.
The public has until Monday, June 1 to provide feedback on the board’s plan to transfer the property. Use the links below to tell the Bureau of Prisons to keep FCI Dublin closed and keep ICE out of Dublin!
